ACR Accreditation
MRI
of Arizona is accredited by American College of Radiology (ACR)
and has been awarded a 3-year term of accreditation in
Magnetic Resonance Imaging as the result of a recent survey
by the ACR. The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for
the achievement of high practice standards after a
peer-review evaluation of the practice.
Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and
medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess
the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of
facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to
the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently
provides the practice with a comprehensive report. For more

Why would a facility
not be accredited?
In most cases, facilities’ MRI systems are simply unable to
meet the high resolution standards set by the ACR.
Technicians operating the MRI systems must possess the
expertise to properly operate the system in order to meet
the ACR’s accreditation requirements. Often the case is that
the technicians or the lack of board-certified radiologists
lack the experience to meet the ACR standards. Even if the
technicians and the radiologists have the expertise to
operate the MRI system, the use of archaic, outdated
equipment makes it impossible to meet the resolutions
standards.
